About the Author

I feel very lucky to be in the unique position to produce my novels and non-fiction books that have both facts and fiction entwined. I think it works because I write from a historical perspective, using my extensive research, passion and fascination in my subjects.

Working as a Mental Health Nurse for 37 years I hope I bring some authenticity to my work, from my personal knowledge and experience. I am still working part-time as an eating disorders nurse in an NHS out-patient therapy setting. My books help me look back at life in Shelton Hospital, the former County ‘Lunatic’ Asylum over the 167 years it was open. This was the hospital I trained and nursed in, as well as visiting patients as a community nurse, until it finally closed its doors in 2012.

Setting up the Shelton Hospital Community 1845-2012  Facebook page over a decade ago, we now have 1.5k members. My administration assistants Cheryl Pearce and Lorraine Fletcher, along with the group, have made this book possible and we can now immortalise all their memories and stories in time.

Over the decades, many staff have retired and have relayed their stories through the group and privately, some wishing to remain anonymous. They give many first-hand perspectives on life inside Shelton Hospital.

This book is not just about ‘ghosts.’ It tells us what life was really like inside for patients and staff, from its early asylum days to that of a psychiatric hospital.

In addition to writing, I enjoy spending time with husband, friends, family, and walking my dog Tim.
